Synopsis
By Giuseppe Verdi
Libretto by Giuseppe Verdi and Temistocle Solera
Nabucco, King of Babylon, conquers Jerusalem and enslaves its people, declaring himself a god above all others. His adopted daughter, Abigaille, driven by jealousy and ambition, seizes the throne for herself the moment Nabucco's arrogance brings down divine punishment, striking him with madness. As the enslaved Hebrews mourn their lost homeland in one of opera's most beloved choruses, Nabucco slowly regains his sanity and his faith, setting the stage for a final reckoning with Abigaille and with the cost of his pride. Verdi's early masterpiece is a sweeping story of conquest, betrayal and redemption propelled by some of the most stirring choral writing ever composed.
The opera will be sung in Italian with English- and Spanish-projected translations.
