As the Arsht Center’s award-winning arts integration program, Learning Through the Arts uses live theatrical performances as the primary path for learning traditional subjects and has reached more than 350,000 MDCPS students since its inception in 2010. Free of charge programs include AileyCamp Miami, Kitty Hawk, I am Me and The Busy Bees Great Adventure.

In the fall of 2017, the Arsht Center expanded its Learning Through the Arts initiative with Kitty Hawk. The invention of the airplane by Wilbur and Orville Wright, one of the greatest stories in American history, comes to life on the Arsht Center stage. Kitty Hawk wows students and educators with its captivating story of invention and perseverance against all odds. Specifically designed for seventh-grade students, the musical highlights the themes of ingenuity, persistence and love of discovery at a very important time in their cognitive development. Launched in early 2022, I am Me is  theater and hands-on workshop experience that tours within M-DCPS to reach up to 25,000 ninth graders annually. I am Me is the first arts-driven, youth mental health awareness program of its scale in the nation. To learn more about this new initiative, click here.

Finally, The Busy Bees Great Adventure premiered in October 2023, reaching over 20,000 M-DCPS students. Geared toward elementary school-age students, this new show about time-traveling honeybees on a quest to save the planet takes place on the Knight Concert Hall stage. The work features Miami-based writers, musicians and actors.
