Twist on Cancer: When I was diagnosed with stage 2B triple-negative breast cancer in May 2025, total despair took over. In an instant, my whole world shattered, leaving me paralyzed by fear and uncertainty. Yet that initial darkness slowly gave way to overwhelming hope when I found my incredible team of medical heroes at Mount Sinai in Miami Beach. Through six grueling months of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy and two clinical studies, I was never fighting alone. I was continuously lifted up by extraordinary compassion from my dedicated doctors, my supportive bosses and the wonderful strangers I met along the way. Through them, I learned the hard, beautiful lesson of opening my heart, being vulnerable and asking for help. Now, as my final phase of care comes to an end this September, I have one critical, life-saving message: Schedule your yearly mammogram and fiercely demand your results. A radiology center failed to notify me in 2024 that I needed a biopsy, a full year before another clinic finally caught the cancer. Please advocate for yourself and never lose precious time. This entire journey changed me forever. It taught me to never give up, to hold fast to hope and to always look for the good around us. Health is worth fighting for, so take charge, speak up, lean on those who love you and remember that even in the darkest storms, healing, strength and light are always waiting for you on the other side of fear and doubt.

Artist Statement: My inspiration Mary Jane and I met at sunrise one morning and shared our cancer journey. MJ shared with me how we are all resilient, and I was able to capture her words through my lense. Soft, golden sunlight illuminates handwritten words in the smooth wet sand, with gentle waves approaching in the distance. The composition is minimalist and serene, featuring warm skies, subtle reflections and a peaceful coastal atmosphere. The final artwork is presented as an acrylic print.
