Twist on Cancer: Being able to sit with a creative and share my experiences as a caregiver was cathartic. I'm in therapy, and my grief journey is a lifelong one. But connecting with Dominik, another woman of the same cultural background, was validating. We share commonalities in our journey, and cancer has unfortunately been one of those things. Being a caregiver and a friend to those who have gone and are going through their cancer journey, and watching your loved ones in a space where you have little control, has been difficult. Yet finding ways to be a blessing has been life-changing. My late mother's life and her journey through it—my first lesson in setting aside self in service to another—was not in vain.

Artist Statement: "Blue Thread of Legacy" honors the life of a Haitian woman whose faith, strength and love continue to live through those she touched. Inspired by her daughter’s memories, this mixed-media painting celebrates the enduring legacy of a mother, caregiver and creator. An abstract female silhouette emerges from layers of acrylic, paper, cheesecloth, hand stitching and gold leaf. A repaired vertical cut speaks to resilience and healing, while a blue thread flows from her heart and divides into two, symbolizing the lasting bond with her son and daughter. A blue line evokes her journey from St. Martin to Miami, and a parallel gold line reflects the faith that guided her throughout her life. This work is a tribute to Haitian womanhood, the strength found in community and the invisible threads of love that continue to connect generations.
