Twist on Cancer: I have a greater appreciation for life and all of its stages. I am grateful I had the time to spend with my mother until the very end. One of the things she instilled in me before her diagnosis is to live fully, which includes making sure my health is in check. Today, I am prioritizing my life's purpose and wellness to take center stage in my mother Joan’s honor. Working with Picardo deepened my connection to my mother. He is awesome artist and human and I cannot wait to see his painting to honor my mother's spirit!

Artist Statement: My journey of using art to raise cancer awareness began in 2014 in Michigan. That first collaboration opened my eyes to how deeply the stories of those affected by cancer could shape my artistic path. Over the years, I’ve embraced art as a healing tool, through mixed media, community art projects and the rhythmic power of hand drumming, spaces where expression becomes therapy.

For this project, I had the privilege of working with Michelle Moreno, whose story became the heart of this piece. She spoke with tenderness about caring for her mother, Joan, during her journey with cancer, reminding me that beyond treatments and challenges, the greatest gift was finding joy together and treasuring every single moment they shared.

This mixed-media work on canvas is not just my creation; it is a tapestry woven from love, grief, resilience and connection. I am deeply grateful to the Adrienne Arsht Center and Brushes With Cancer for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful and transformative collaboration.
