Artist Statement: This collage was inspired by Kelli, a resilient survivor of breast cancer. Through our conversations, I listened deeply and absorbed fragments of her story—moments of fear, courage, grief, hope, love and eventual rebirth. These shared reflections became the emotional foundation of this work.

Rather than simply telling her story, I challenged myself to embody it. What would I feel if I were in her position? What memories would replay? What emotions would I bury, and which ones would I need to scream out loud? I created this piece as if I were living inside her experience, navigating the storm of uncertainty while holding onto slivers of light.

The collage is layered and chaotic by design—a visual manifestation of a mind overwhelmed yet searching for order. The covered face symbolizes everything left unsaid, the truths too heavy to speak and the strength it takes to simply endure. Every image and word is a fragment of something larger: the tension between vulnerability and power, despair and faith, survival and identity.

In the end, this piece is not just about cancer. It’s about what it means to hold on—to dream, to hurt, to transform. It’s a tribute to Kelli and to every person who’s ever had to rebuild themselves from the inside out.
