Welcome to the 30th anniversary tour of Salute to Vienna New Year’s Concert! For three decades, this concert has enchanted audiences across North America with the elegance of Viennese waltzes, operetta gems and radiant performers.
From Salute to Vienna’s first performance in 1995 to its more than 1 million patrons today, the show’s artistic vision has made it a beloved holiday tradition.
May this milestone year shine with musical brilliance and heartfelt connection and may the spirit of Vienna’s golden era live on through every waltz, note and performance you share.

Today, you are joining us for a milestone occasion: the 30th anniversary of Salute to Vienna New Year’s Concert. Every holiday season, this concert gives us the chance to look back on the year that’s passed. Today, however, we can’t help but reflect on how much has changed since we first brought this beloved Viennese tradition to North America 30 years ago.
We owe the tremendous success of Salute to Vienna to audiences across the continent. By being here today, you join more than 1 million audience members who have put their love of music, art and cultural diversity at the heart of their New Year’s celebrations. The artists appearing in today’s concert have all traveled a great distance to bring this life-affirming tradition to you. They are some of the finest European artists in their fields, and it is our privilege to share their talents with you once again.
Although the world is a much different place than it was 30 years ago, our values have remained the same. This concert is a reminder that, no matter where we come from or what language we speak, we are all united by the universal power of music.

Imre Kollár
Imre Kollár received his diploma from the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. After serving as assistant conductor of the Hungarian State Opera, he became conductor of the Dohnányi Symphony Youth Orchestra and assistant conductor at the Hungarian State Symphony. Since 1994, he has directed the Debrecen Philharmonic Orchestra. He also conducts the MÁV Symphony Orchestra in Budapest. His recordings include Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4. He has performed in Asia, Australia and North America.

Brigitta Simon
Brigitta Simon completed her master’s degrees in opera, lied and oratorio and instrumental and vocal pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. She has won numerous prizes at national and international singing competitions, and was a 2009 Operalia finalist. As a soloist, she has performed throughout Europe on stages including the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Great Hall and the Wiener Musikverein’s Golden Hall. Previous roles include the Queen of the Night (Magic Flute), Olympia (Tales of Hoffmann), Violetta Valéry (La traviata) and Adele (Die Fledermaus). She has collaborated with Plácido Domingo, Ruggero Raimondi, Zubin Mehta and Helmut Deutsch.

Eric Fennell’s career highlights include playing Duca in Rigoletto (Deutsche Oper Berlin), Rodolfo in La bohème (New York City Opera, National Theater Mannheim), Hoffmann in Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Hawaii Opera Theatre, Staatstheater Mainz), Don José in Carmen (Opéra de Toulon, Oper im Steinbruch, Arizona Opera), Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly (Austin Lyric Opera, Utah Opera), Mitch in A Streetcar Named Desire (Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires, Theater Bielefeld), Narraboth in Salome (Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino), as well as title roles in Don Carlos (Lithuanian National Opera) and Werther (Staatstheater Braunschweig, Lyric Opera Ireland).
