Miami, FL – September 15, 2025 – The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) is proud to announce that Miami-based mixed media artist, TYPOE (@typoe), has been commissioned to create a large-scale, site-specific work for the exterior wall of the Carnival Tower at the Arsht. Overlooking Biscayne Boulevard and the outdoor Parker and Vann Thomson Plaza for the Arts, the colorful 20-by-30-foot mural depicts a whimsical stage adorned with playful artistic motifs. Titled “Paper Stage (Allegory of Life),” the work is designed to serve as an invitation for all to be inspired by cultural experiences at the Arsht and all over Miami.

The mural was officially unveiled on September 13 with a public reception on the Thomson Plaza and is now available for everyone's enjoyment.

“As a Miami native, this project is a very meaningful opportunity to bring my vision to life in a culturally rich space. I hope this artwork inspires visitors to connect with their own creativity and experience the unique energy of Miami and especially around the Arsht," said TYPOE.

“The Arsht is delighted to grant to TYPOE, a local artist of great renown, the resources and space to create a remarkable visual on one of Miami’s most recognizable buildings,” said Johann Zietsman, president and CEO of the Adrienne Arsht Center. “TYPOE’s unique and imaginative art will serve an open invitation to passersby, Arsht guests and the community at large to connect with Miami’s lively cultural landscape.”

This project marks culmination of a year-long collaboration between the Arsht and TYPOE, who was also commissioned to create the 2025 Arsht Awards and the Arsht’s vibrant 2025 holiday card.

About the mural

Overlooking Biscayne Boulevard and the Thomson Plaza for the Arts, TYPOE’s “Paper Stage (Allegory of Life)” is more than a welcome to the Arsht. It’s an invitation to enter your own imagination. Inspired by 19th century paper stage models—miniature sets where layered scenes unfolded like a play—this work is a play that never ends, layers of meaning revealing themselves with every glance. Here, man, nature, romance and mystery move in quiet succession, not just to be watched, but to be experienced. Rooted in the lens of childhood psychology, the mural taps into the deep emotional imprint that live performances can leave—those moments of awe and reflection that linger long after the lights go up. Whether you’re attending a show or simply passing by, it is designed to stir that same sense of wonder, inviting you to carry its story beyond the wall and making it part of your own.
