"There's nothing like an evening spent with Ailey II, the younger version of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater." – The New York Times

Hailed by Dance Magazine as "second to none," Ailey II merges the spirit and energy of the country’s best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today’s most outstanding emerging choreographers. Founded in 1974, the company embodies Alvin Ailey’s pioneering mission to establish an extended cultural community that provides performances, training and community programs for all people. With Artistic Director Francesca Harper at the helm, Ailey II continues to thrive as she brings a fresh dimension to this beloved company. Miami native Robert Battle, artistic director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater since 2011, also serves as artistic advisor for Ailey II and has set many of his own works on the company. “Proverbial light bulbs of inspiration have gone off with enough frequency for Pilobolus over the past 48 years to make the troupe a household name.” – The Wall Street Journal

The remarkable company that secured a place in American culture in the early 1970s is still wowing audiences with its irresistible mix of wit, sensuality and physical acumen. Its program includes reimagined works for a never-before-seen Pilobolus experience, including, among other pieces, their newest work, “The Ballad,” created in collaboration with local Native American storyteller Darlene Kascak; the solo from “Empty Suitor,” a comedic choreographic masterpiece showcasing the humor of Pilobolus; and “Behind the Shadows,” where dancers spin, swivel and turn a screen to reveal both the amazing composite shadow figures as well as the technique that has made the company famous around the world.

“A woman who can dance up not just a flamenco storm, but a hurricane!” – The Guardian

The internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer and superstar of the flamenco world Sara Baras returns to the Arsht Center with her newest show, Alma, as the centerpiece of Flamenco Festival Miami 2023. In Alma, flamenco embraces the bolero and, in turn, bolero sounds are embraced by flamenco moves. Baras pays respect to flamenco’s techniques while fusing it with her own modern touch, brilliant footwork, and captivating stage presence. With lavish costumes and live music performed onstage featuring flamenco rhythms, Baras will once again thrill Florida audiences in her first Miami performance since 2019.
