Fear Up Harsh Special Events: YELP’S A PLAY & A PINT   |   FREE CHAT BACKS

Thursday, November 7, 2013
7:30pm - 11:30pm

Peanut butter and jelly.  Ying and Yang.  Theater and beer?  Sounds about right!  The Adrienne Arsht Center has teamed up with Yelp to present "A Play & A Pint" -- a series of events to celebrate the Theater Up Close season in the Carnival Studio Theater.

THE PLAY: Zoetic Stage’s "Fear Up Harsh" at the Adrienne Arsht Center - 7:30pm
THE PINT: Post-show pint at Balans Brickell - 9pm to Midnight

TICKETS!  Use promo code PLAY&PINT to get your $25 ticket to "Fear Up Harsh" on Thursday, November 7 for Opening Night. Then just  bring your ticket stub to Balans Brickell for a free pint of Grolsch® beer, live music, late-night happy hour deals and more!

Balans Brickell
901 South Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33130

Why theater and beer? Beyond the snarky "why not" response, we want to encourage post-show dialogue about each of the shows in this avant-guarde, experimental theater series. With A Play & A Pint events, you can get "up close" to the action in the theater and then again over a pint. And, of course, we want to hear all about your experience, which is why we've partnered up with Yelp. See the show, grab a beer to talk about it, then post about it on Yelp. See you "up close" soon!

Sunday, 11/10 and 11/17:
Maria Maloof joins the cast and creators of Fear Up Harsh for an intimate and free post-show chat back with the audience about her experience as a retired United States Marine officer who served in "Operation Desert Storm.”  She also served in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and Okinawa, Japan.  In civilian life, Maria is professional event planner and manager.  Her company, "House of Maloof," plans and manages private and corporate events.  Maria lives in Miami with her husband, Al, and her two sons, the oldest of whom will graduate from FIU next month and begin graduate school.
Wednesday, 11/13 and 11/20:
Join award-winning Miami Herald staff writer, Steve Rothaus, as he moderates an intimate and free post-show chatback. Steve will be joined by the cast and creators of Fear Up Harsh as well as special guest, Walker Burttschell, a United States Marine Corps Veteran, and will lead the discussion with the audience on the topic of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and Walker’s real-life experience. The chat-back will also explore how we hope these issues may be dealt with differently since the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

World Premiere!
Written by Christopher Demos-Brown.
Directed by Stuart Meltzer.

“Fear Up Harsh” is a term used by the military to designate “enhanced interrogation” techniques. It’s also the title of a searing new drama about a Marine Medal of Honor winner hiding a past that’s anything but honorable by Zoetic Stage co-founder and 2010 Carbonell Award winner, Christopher Demos-Brown.

An Iraq War Medal of Honor recipient’s perfect life begins to unravel when a former comrade-in-arms comes to call in this play that shines a light on the corrupting effect of awards and commendations. Fear Up Harsh makes its world premiere after receiving critical praise during its recent work-in-progress presentation at the Arsht Center’s 2013 Miami Made Festival.
