“No one struts, kicks, spins, leaps and gyrates the way they do!"
"This is strong dancing with high energy and top level technique!”
Featuring a world premiere by Miami dance star Rosie Herrera and works by Artistic Director Eduardo Vilaro, Ballet Hispanico explores the contemporary Latin soul through pieces that fuse ethnic dance with classical and contemporary techniques.
Since its inception in 1970, Ballet Hispanico’s contemporary repertory has reflected the ever-changing diversity of Latino cultures, showcased masterfully by “12 of the most technically accomplished and musical dancers you’ll find in the contemporary sphere” (The Washington Post). The Company’s first visit to Miami under the artistic leadership of Eduardo Vilaro will feature a world premiere from Miami-based choreographer Rosie Herrera and live music by the GRAMMY-winning Paquito D’Rivera Ensemble. Other program highlights include Sombrerísimo, Belgo-Colombian Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s athletic tour de force for six male dancers; Sortijas, a darkly lush duet from Cayetano Soto, one of the most dynamic and groundbreaking Spanish choreographers of his generation; and Danzón, a joyous work by Cuban-American Vilaro that plays on the fusion of jazz improvisation and Cuban rhythms.
