| Florida Grand Opera presents Rigoletto January 28 - February 11, 2012 One of the world's best-loved operas, Verdi's Rigoletto is the story of a court jester who enables the Duke's philandering and mocks the husbands and fathers of the victims. When he finds his own daughter, whom he has kept a well hidden secret, to be the Duke's newest victim, he tries to repay evil with evil, and it goes horribly wrong. FGO's Young Artist Studio shines in this production with several former members taking the stage. These include West Palm Beach native Nadine Sierra as Rigoletto's daughter Gilda and Jeff Buchman as director. Michael Fabiano joins the cast as the Duke of Mantua along with FGO Resident Conductor Andrew Bisantz.

| Miami City Ballet Ballet for Young People Carnival of the Animals February 18 Advanced students from the prestigious Miami City Ballet School will perform Carnival of the Animals, a ballet about the fragility of Earth's creatures and the role of humans in caring for our planet.
Three poachers are stealing wild animals in the African savannah. Some children and an older sister, who are on a picnic, watch them capture a beautiful white swan. They save the swan and release the other captured animals with the help of the lead poacher, who has fallen in love with the older sister. The ballet ends in a great celebration of life, love, beauty and a rediscovering of humans' similarity and connection to the animal world. | Florida Grand Opera presents Roméo et Juliette April 21 - May 5, 2012 The final production of the season will be Gounod's Roméo et Juliette, not seen at FGO since 2004. Of the many operatic treatments of Shakespeare's play, Gounod's has been the most enduring, with its perfect depiction of the unrestrained passion of youth, and the bitter tragedy visited on the rival Capulet and Montague families.
This production stars French tenor Sébastien Guèze as Roméo, who has been called by Opera News "one of the most promising young tenors of his generation." He made his FGO debut in David DiChiera's Cyrano at the close of the 2010-2011 season. He is joined by the lovely Mexican soprano Maria Alejandres as Juliette. Alejandres got her start in 2008, when she won Plácido Domingo's internationally acclaimed opera and zarzuela competition, Operalia. She has previously sung the role of Juliette at the Royal Opera House and San Antonio Opera, showcasing a voice called "naturally gorgeous ... [and] a big lustrous lyric soprano" by the Intermezzo Blog. Joseph Mechavich makes his FGO debut as conductor, and David Lefkowich makes his FGO mainstage debut as stage director. Roméo et Juliette is made possible by a generous donation from Randy Gage and the Miami After Opera Party is sponsored by Dr. Steven C. Sanders.
