While I complete my tenure as the CEO and President of the Adrienne Arsht Center, I won’t miss an opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to you.
Ten years ago, I was thrilled by Miami’s aspirations to be an internationally-recognized economic and cultural magnet. I heard the call, and together we built a glorious performing arts center – world-class and community-based – buoyed by solid public partnerships, unwavering civic leadership, a passionate cadre of professionals, and the intoxicating ingenuity of a city waking up to its incredible vitality. I am honored to have been part of this transformation.
Now it is time to close this chapter in my journey, yet the Arsht Center’s dedication to excellence in entertainment and education will continue. Johann Zietsman will join the Center as President and CEO this February. From his pioneering cultural work in his homeland of South Africa to the 10 years of transformative growth as CEO and president of the Arts Commons in Calgary, Alberta, Johann brings vitality, vision and grit to our community.
When Adrienne Arsht, founding chairman of the Adrienne Arsht Center Foundation, first spoke with Johann, she had this to say: “Johann is fabulous, and I am confident he will do a stellar job at the Arsht and be a tremendous addition to the Miami community.” I couldn’t agree more. We are in good hands.
Here in our halls, across our campus, through the vibrant rhythm of Miami’s cultural scene, runs a creative vision held by an inspiring group of those who believe in the power of the performing arts to change lives. It is a privilege to have been embraced by this community over the past 10 years. Thank you for taking this journey with me. Please have a blessed holiday season and a prosperous 2019.
