The Arison Family / Carnival Corporation

Carnival Corporation

Miami-based Carnival Corporation is a longtime and generous supporter of the fine and performing arts in South Florida. Carnival supports a wide variety of local arts organizations, including several that have become South Florida institutions — the New World Symphony, Miami City Ballet and the Florida Grand Opera, all of which are resident companies at the Adrienne Arsht Center.

The company’s association with the performing arts center dates back to the facility’s planning stages when the late Ted Arison, Carnival’s founder and chairman emeritus, made a substantial personal financial commitment in the early 1990s to help fund the development of the Center. Carnival was so impressed with the initial progress of the arts complex that the company funded the flooring for the Center’s beautifully designed John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall.

As the performing arts center neared completion, Carnival, continuing its role as a pacesetter in the South Florida arts community, again stepped up and made a second substantive contribution equal to the Arison family’s initial multi-million-dollar commitment. The combined gift secured the initial naming rights for the entire facility while providing capital for future operations.

In 2008, when Adrienne Arsht provided her generous donation to the center, Carnival agreed to relinquish the naming rights for the overall facility in exchange for the opportunity to name the intimate studio theater, the iconic pedestrian arts bridge and the historic Sears tower.

In addition to the performing arts center, Ted and Lin Arison dedicated their time and resources to a variety of projects that offer young artists, musicians and dancers performance and educational opportunities. In 1981, the Arisons formed the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts (now known as YoungArts), which provides young artists with solid foundations for developing their talents in a variety of disciplines. The New World Symphony, for example, was created by the foundation in 1987 to serve as a training ground for promising local, national and international young musicians.

While Carnival Corporation is composed of a portfolio of leading cruise line brands, it is Miami-based Carnival Cruise Lines that has been the driving force in the company’s local philanthropic and charitable activities for nearly three and a half decades.

When current Carnival Corporation Chairman and CEO Micky Arison took over the company's helm from his father, Ted Arison in 1990, he continued the philosophy established by Ted and his wife Lin years earlier—giving back to the community.

Carnival’s support comes both through the Carnival Foundation, the company’s philanthropic arm, and its employee-directed volunteer service group, the “Friends Uniting Neighbors” (F.U.N.) Team.

In addition to an ongoing commitment to the arts, Carnival and its employees regularly donate time, money and talent to such wide-ranging organizations as the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, Camillus House, American Red Cross, March of Dimes, Community Partnership for the Homeless, Junior Achievement, Make-A-Wish Foundation, United Way of Miami-Dade, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Miami Children’s Museum, Diabetes Research Institute Foundation, Florida Literacy Coalition, Children’s Home Society, Kids In Distress, Jackson Memorial Hospital Foundation, Miami HEAT Charitable Fund, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Headquartered in Miami since its inception in 1972, the Carnival Corporation has had a wide-reaching impact on our community playing a vital role in the continued growth and development of Miami as a major international city.
