Experience the radiant voice of American soprano Dawn Upshaw in the Miami premiere of three hauntingly beautiful songs by Argentinean composer Osvaldo Golijov. The triumphant trumpets of Verdi’s AÏda celebrate an ancient Egyptian victory, and the rallying cry of Prokofiev’s stirring Fifth Symphony summon the Russian people in the darkest hours of World War Two. |

Giancarlo Guerrero returns in his inaugural season as Miami Residency Principal Guest Conductor to lead The Cleveland Orchestra in a concert of masterpieces. The evening begins with a musical walk in the woods, presented through Beethoven’s lovingly detailed sixth Symphony, “Pastoral,” complete with the sounds of birdcalls and a thrilling thunderstorm. Venezuelan-American pianist Gabriela Montero joins the Orchestra for Edvard Grieg’s splendidly tuneful and popular Piano Concerto. And the concert closes with brass blazing in Respighi’s masterful The Pines of Rome.

For the 2012 Family Concert, The Cleveland Orchestra partners with one of the hottest young Latin bands today, the three-time Grammy-nominated music group Tiempo Libre, for a program that explores the DNA of orchestral music traditions from its early origins in Africa, through Europe, to the Caribbean and Latin America, to the modern day concert hall.
Join us for a journey of "musical crossings" that pairs Tiempo Libre's high-voltage musicians, classically trained at Cuba's premiere conservatories, with The Cleveland Orchestra, one of the world's top orchestras, in a joyful, dance-inducing, hour-long concert for the entire family! |
