Cleveland Orchestra Miami 2017-2018
Presented in partnership with the Adrienne Arsht Center, The Cleveland Orchestra returns for the Orchestra’s 12th year in Miami for concerts in 2018! Concerts will take place in January and February led by Music Director Franz Welser-Möst featuring symphonies by Beethoven and Mahler! Two-concert packages start at $70 and will become available on Monday, April 17.
In the first concert Franz Welser-Möst conducts Mahler’s Ninth Symphony, the composer’s breathtaking, last completed symphony that is considered to be a meditation on the beauty of life. The second concert, an all-Beethoven program, explores the composer’s iconic Symphony No. 5, his joyful Symphony No. 8 and the tragic and dramatic Overture to Coriolan.

Alban Berg wrote: "[It] is the most heavenly thing Mahler has written... an expression of an exceptional fondness for this earth, the longing to live in peace on it, to enjoy nature to its depths - before death comes... In the midst of the utmost intensity of almost painful joy in life." Mahler's stunning and breathtaking final symphony is a profound love song--a meditation on the beauty of life and the poignant joy of the evolution of time.
"Fate knocking at the door." This symphony opens with perhaps the four most famous notes in all of music. Revolutionary in its time, it is now perhaps the best known piece of music in history. Plus, Beethoven's almost uncharacteristically joyful Eighth Symphony is an often overlooked masterpiece containing no less brilliance than his more well-known symphonies.
