Hailed as a “passionate musician of drama and high intensity,” Grammy Award winner Barbara Hannigan joins the Orchestra as guest conductor and soprano soloist for a varied program and unique performing presentation including showpieces by Debussy, Haydn, Gershwin and more, featuring principal flute player Joshua Smith as soloist in Debussy’s “Syrinx.”

Hannigan will conduct Haydn’s Symphony No. 86 and then lead and sing Sibelius’s hypnotically challenging tone-poem Luonnotar. To close the program, she sings (and conducts) the gripping, psychologically-charged Suite from Alban Berg’s opera Lulu, followed by an indescribably fun-filled suite of music from George Gershwin’s Girl Crazy Suite.
