Step Afrika! pays homage to the African American step show, introduces audiences to Zulu and South African Gumboot Dance, shares the step tradition of audience participation and closes with a complex, polyrhythmic percussive symphony that brings audiences to their feet!

Step Afrika! is the first professional dance Company in the world dedicated to the tradition of stepping. the Company continues to promote an appreciation for stepping as a contemporary dance genre and its use as an educational, motivational and healthy tool for young people. Step Afrika! accomplishes this mission through arts education activities, international cultural exchange programs and performances. Over the past 19 years Step Afrika! has grown to become one of the top 10 African American Dance Companies in the US and the largest African American led arts organization in Washington, DC.

Step Afrika! gets people moving – towards college, towards a greater appreciation for the arts and towards a better understanding of each other.


*First-Access Passes do not guarantee entry and expire 15 minutes prior to the performance. First-Access Passes must be obtained for every member of your party. There is a limit of 4 passes per household. Those without a First-Access Pass must wait in the Stand-By Line beginning at 12:30 p.m. on the day of. Patrons will be let in on a first-come, first-served basis as seats become available.
