Shade is Augusto Soledade’s latest full-length work and delves into identity and identification, the underlying themes for the creation of this contemporary dance piece. It is created with six dancers and will be accompanied by an original score created by Jessica Muñiz-Collado, and an art installation by Kandy Lopez.
Other repertory works that are part of the bill are Some Things Revealed (2010) and Think Blue (2017). Commissioned by the Moving Current Dance Collective, in Some Things Revealed, Soledade plays with the idea of what dance image gets revealed as he blends the signature dance styles of two distinct companies, Moving Current Dance Collective and Augusto Soledade Brazzdance. The objective of this abstract work is to offer a visual and emotional experience that is beyond distinctions. Think Blue 2017 is inspired by the book “Why The Sky Is Far Away - A Nigerian Tale,” retold by Mary-Joan Gerson. This repertory work, along with the book, touches on current issues in our relationship with our living environments and natural resources inviting all to reflect on our responsibility in keeping a balance between personal ambitions and sustainability. Think Blue was specifically created to be part of ASBD for ABC’s - Promoting Literature Through Dance, a company initiative to link children literature and contemporary dance.
