The 2015-2016 eighth anniversary JAZZ ROOTS season kicks off with a spectacular concert exploring the movies of director Spike Lee and the memorable scores of Terence Blanchard!
Blanchard is an internationally renowned jazz trumpeter, has over 50 film scores to his credit and is the most prolific jazz musician to ever compose for movies. Entertainment Weekly proclaimed, “Blanchard is central to a general resurgence of jazz composition in film.” A multiple Grammy Award winner, Blanchard has recorded over 30 solo albums and is one of the most celebrated jazz musician/composers of our time!
The evening will feature a montage of classic scenes from Spike Lee movies performed by a star-studded lineup featuring Blanchard and his quintet. Joining them are 3-time Grammy and Tony winner Dee Dee Bridgewater, Grammy nominated vocalist Maysa and Grammy winner for 20 Feet From Stardom Judith Hill along with the Frost School of Music's Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra.
