"…this week’s CSO program, with young Romanian-born conductor Cristian Macelaru … proved to be one of the best and most exciting concerts of the season to date. … You could practically touch the respect that the large orchestra reflected back on the conductor, not yet 35. He is the most insightful and serious young conductor out there today. The all-Stravinsky second half … was both convincing and wholly musical."
- Chicago Sun-Times

"The orchestra's associate conductor, Cristian Macelaru stepped in valiantly without changing the program and proved that he had much to offer at a moments notice."
- Huffington Post

"Macelaru showed immediate interpretive authority with Ravel's Rapsodie espagnole- the Prelude of the Night opening just conjuring sensorial realms and earthy evocations. His bold accents and illuminations seemed a clear indication to what he brings to French repertoire. The mystery and the sensual drama of Ravel's brought to full intoxicating bloom. The woodwinds vibrantly driving the orchestral thrust and the lower strings essayed the lush undercurrent."
- Huffington Post
“Ray Chen can do pretty much anything he wants on the violin.” – Washington Post

Sibelius Kuolema: Valse Triste
Sibelius Violin Concerto
Nielsen Symphony No. 4

The Sibelius Violin Concerto is a landmark synthesis of technical virtuosity and rich, deeply-felt melody - considered one of the greatest concertos in the repertoire!  Even today, Sibelius strikingly original orchestrations rank him as one of the most important composers of the 20th century.

Known as ‘The Inextinguishable’ Symphony No. 4, by Carl Nielsen conveys ‘the elemental will to live!’ As the most important (and prolific!) Danish composer of the early 1900's, Nielsen’s symphonies are filled with incredible tonal melodies and highly emotional passages of blazing energy!
