"Brilliant!” – U2’s Bono

Experience a powerful tribute to Nelson Mandela, as part of a spirited performance by international sensation, SOWETO GOSPEL CHOIR! This event will kickoff Black History Month at the Arsht with a rousing celebration showcasing the 24-member choir’s signature mix of African gospel, reggae, and original arrangements of American pop music.

Based in South Africa and led by director Beverly Bryer, SOWETO GOSPEL CHOIR was the first South African group to perform at the Academy Awards (2009) and has performed all over the world, sharing the stage with global powerhouses including Bono, Aretha Franklin, Robert Plant, Peter Gabriel, Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Queen and many more. They have earned two Grammy Awards and served as ambassadors for Nelson Mandela’s 46664 AIDS awareness campaign.

Winner of two Grammys, one Emmy, three SAMAS and one Oscar nomination, Soweto Gospel Choir is one of South Africa’s most amazing performing groups.
